Effective Practices

Sharing successful strategies for serving low-income students

The CollegeKeys Compact™ is a national call to action to school districts, colleges and universities, state education agencies, and nonprofit organizations to identify, share, and expand programs and practices that address the needs and challenges of low-income students and help them get ready for, get into, and get through college. The College Board is committed to disseminating information about these effective practices and recognizing exemplary programs through an Innovation Awards program.

Submitting effective practices

CollegeKeys Compact members are encouraged to submit effective practices in the three categories of Getting Ready, Getting In, and Getting Through and to review posted practices for implementation at their own institution. A catalog of effective practices will be made available online and members will have access to an online community allowing peer institutions to discuss programs and share strategies. On an annual basis the College Board will publish a compendium of practices submitted that year and distribute the publication to all Compact members.

To submit an effective practice, Compact members must complete the CollegeKeys Compact Effective Practices Submission Form.

See examples of effective practices that fall within the three main CollegeKeys Compact categories:

Benefits of submission

  • Inclusion in the upcoming CollegeKeys online catalog of effective practices
  • Inclusion in a yearly compendium of effective practices distributed to Compact members
  • Invitations to CollegeKeys networking events and receptions with Compact members
  • Opportunity for the submitted initiative, associated educators, or impacted students to be profiled online and in a College Board Connection newsletter feature, with an audience of nearly 150,000 educators and others
  • Consideration for one of three $5,000 Innovation Awards in your region
