Strategies for Success
The objective of the Five Ways Ed Pays Campaign is to strengthen college aspirations and parental support for children’s educational plans.
Below are some strategies to employ to ensure a successful campaign experience.
Engage the leadership of the district in the campaign to ensure support from the top down.
Develop a communication plan that connects the campaign directly to school principals, teachers, and counselors to gain their buy-in and to ensure commitment to the goals of the campaign.
Establish measurable goals for the campaign that you can use to measure success and impact.
Engage with community-based organizations, local religious institutions, and postsecondary institutions and collaborate with them on the campaign and supporting messages.
Reach out to local leaders and influencers in the community to further the message of the campaign.
Communicate with students and families in non-traditional ways—Hand out campaign information at sporting events, sponsor a contest to spark interest, or find local celebrities to act as spokespeople.
Connect the messages of the Five Ways to academics, for example, display Better Heath posters in the gym, science, and health classes, display Stronger Community posters in Social Studies or Government classes.
Create a College or Career Day and use the Five Ways materials to encourage college and career aspirations.
Create an event around the PSAT/NMSQT or the SAT administration and connect the messages of Five Ways Ed Pays to these college readiness assessments.
