Why We're Helping

Great teachers make great schools. Teachers are critically important to the success of our young people. It is impossible to conceive of effective school reform without a strong emphasis on providing teachers the increased support they need to be more effective.

Too often — as policymakers and others debate issues such as compensation, evaluations, professional development, career ladders, mentoring and other supports — teachers' voices are not central to the conversation. That's why we're highlighting their work. Teachers must be included not only on issues that impact their work directly, but in all areas of education reform.

Our Progress

The eight teachers profiled in the report made Congressional visits to add teachers’ voices to education policy considerations.

With Phi Delta Kappa and the National Writing Project, published Teachers Are the Center of Education: Writing, Learning and Leading in the Digital Age, which follows nine teachers who use technology to teach writing

Development of the third report in the day-in-the-life series: former and current teachers mentoring new teachers

Legislative visits with teachers to contribute to ESEA reauthorization

Our Goal

To support teachers by highlighting the critical importance of their work and amplifying their voices in policy debates about educational reform.
