GEAR UP
Funding & Resource Opportunities
Increase the number of low-income students prepared to enter postsecondary institutions
Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federal grant competition that grants funding to states and partnerships that provide programs and services for increasing low-income students' preparation for postsecondary education. GEAR UP programs serve cohorts of students before they begin seventh grade and support them through high school. Additionally, funding can be used for low-income students' college scholarships.
Eligibility
Any state agency designated by the governor of the state may apply for a GEAR UP grant. Additionally, partnerships consisting of at least one college or university, at least one low-income middle school, and at least two other partners (such as community organizations, businesses, religious groups, student organizations, state or local education agencies, and parent groups) may apply.
